Aims:
To strengthen the dental team’s confidence and competence in recognising, responding to and managing medical emergencies, ensuring safe, timely and effective action in line with current guidance.
Objectives:
● Identify the signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies that may occur within the dental setting.
● Recognise the emergency drugs and equipment required in a dental practice, and understand their indications, storage and maintenance.
● Describe the key guidance documents relating to medical emergency management in dentistry and understand how they apply to everyday practice.
● Explain the expectations placed on all members of the dental team in preventing, recognising and responding to medical emergencies, including teamwork, communication and escalation.
